About the team

Zillow’s Experimentation Platform team (ZEXP) supports self-service experimentation across our company. We are responsible for the platform that drives AB testing across customer facing experiences, back-end services, and AI. Our customers span Product, Engineering, and Data Science.

We are a cross-functional team that consists of software developers, data engineers, and data scientists. Our work is varied, covering backend systems and data pipelines, to user front end, and to analytical approaches supporting experimentation. Beyond the platform, we are responsible for Zillow-wide experimentation culture.

We sit within the broader Core Data Tech and Platform Engineering organization, which is broadly responsible for Zillow’s production and data infrastructure.

About the role

As the engineering leader of the ZEXP team, you will be in a position to modernize and accelerate Zillow’s experimentation program. There is a significant opportunity to increase product velocity and our effectiveness at deriving actionable insights from the experiments that we run. You will partner closely with Product and work across Zillow group. We expect for this team to be transformative over the coming years.

You will lead a team of software development engineers, data engineers, and data scientists. You’ll help them develop in their careers, and collaborate with data science and engineering teams to land new features and tooling integrations. You will partner closely with product management to prioritize and ensure that the team meets its obligations to partners, you will also have a major role in developing, communicating, and realizing the long-term experimentation vision.

In addition, we are investing heavily in building out our Mexico based team. We are looking for an engineering leader who is interested in stretching outside of their immediate role of leading ZEXP and also serving as a mentor and leader to the broader set of Mexico-based employees within the Core Data Tech and Platform Engineering team.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

Who you are

  • Degree in an engineering, science, or related discipline

  • 8+ years of management experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong passion for collaboration across organizational boundaries.

  • Ability to make and communicate difficult decisions about priority and scope.

  • Willingness to engage in details on both software and science topics when appropriate.

  • Bonus Qualifications:

    • Prior experience with experimentation

    • Experience managing large-scale software platform with disparate stakeholders.

    • Proficiency in Python and modern data technologies such as Spark
