About the team

We are a team of fun and skilled accounting professionals within the Controllership organization who enjoy working in a congenial environment within an innovative, fast-paced tech and media company. We own revenue accounting for certain business lines, as well as support implementation of financial and billing processes related to new products and revenue streams. We work in a highly collaborative environment with teams throughout the organization, including Financial Reporting/Technical Accounting, Tax, FP&A, Billing and Collections, IT/Engineering, and Sales and Operations teams across various product lines.

Specifically, our team is responsible for:
Acting as the primary liaison for Revenue Accounting, collaborating with cross-functional partners to support initiatives and ensure accurate implementation of new products/offerings, systems, etc.
Oversee billing and revenue subledger systems, including user access management, month-end close activities, and ensuring data integrity and compliance with audit/SOX requirements.
Completing month-end close responsibilities including closing the billing and revenue subledgers, preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Participating in the annual audit and quarterly reviews performed by our auditors, including walkthroughs and the preparation of PBCs
Finance integration of new activity, including the creation of new processes and GL close activities

About the role

Zillow Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Revenue Accounting team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting, this position is responsible for supporting various revenue products in our ShowingTime Plus, Rentals, New Construction, and Media business lines. This position requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, an interest in the real estate and media industries, and motivation to contribute to a constantly evolving business. Specifically, the role will:

  • Act as the first point of contact for cross-functional partners for tools/systems that impact accounting (e.g., Workday, Zuora, Domo, Salesforce), and owning the intake and assessment of technical requests for changes to these tools/systems.

  • Support efforts to improve project implementation processes, drive business process improvements, and facilitate data governance and reporting standards.

  • Champion change management by training users, leading process and system enhancements, and updating standard operating procedures.

  • Provide regular project updates, status reporting, and ensure risks are mitigated with strong controls for new products and systems.

  • Design and implement effective solutions to meet business needs, facilitate team operational readiness, and drive user-acceptance testing strategies.

  • Support projects for Revenue Accounting, including gathering, documenting, and vetting robust business requirements, and ensuring timely delivery with appropriate approvals.

  • Prepare and/or review journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process

  • Provide relevant insight into financial results for accounting leadership and business partners

  • Continuously pursue optimization and automation of existing processes to scale with the growth of the business efficiently and effectively

  • Cultivate cross-functional relationships among Finance and business stakeholders

  • Perform activities and maintain documentation in compliance with financial reporting requirements and SOX controls

  • Support internal and external audit activities

  • Provide coaching to and review deliverables prepared by junior team members

  • Support ad-hoc/special projects and analysis, as necessary

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $75,100.00 - $119,900.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • BA/BS with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent

  • 4+ years’ experience, preferably in public accounting, a mid-to-large-sized tech or high-growth company, or a mix

  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and experience with ASC 606

  • CPA preferred

  • Advanced Excel skills with an interest and aptitude for working with large amounts of data

  • Experience with Workday, Salesforce, and/or Zuora preferred

  • Experience with Alteryx Designer and/or Tableau Prep desirable

  • Experience with project related work (system implementations, product offerings, project management, etc) preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to work with a high sense of urgency while maintaining outstanding attention to detail

  • Capable of prioritizing conflicting responsibilities and independently driving toward deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, and data driven organization
