This critical team is entrusted with the ownership and meticulous management of all compliant and secure data pertaining to our finance and people organizations. This encompasses everything from financial transactions and reporting to employee data, ensuring its integrity, accessibility, and adherence to all regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable big data solutions that drive insights and support crucial business functions across these vital departments.

About the role

  • Zillow’s Enterprise Applications organization is seeking a savvy SDE to join our team and shape the future of our Enterprise data platform. This data platform serves Analytics and reporting needs of Zillow's Finance, HR and other organizational functions. You will be responsible for building data collection, transformation and processing pipeline automation for Zillow’s Enterprise function data to support Zillow’s rapidly growing and dynamic businesses, and use it to deliver the BI and Insights critical for success of these functions.

  • As a Data Engineer, you will be an expert in data warehousing components, including data modeling, ETL, and reporting, as well as data integrations. You will possess a deep understanding of enterprise-level data warehouse architecture, encompassing various platforms such as traditional Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and modern columnar databases. This includes expertise in data modeling (dimensional, 3NF), ETL/ELT processes, data governance, and data quality best practices.

  • You will be adept at optimizing data pipelines, managing data lifecycles, and ensuring data security and compliance within a complex enterprise environment.With excellent business and communication skills, you will collaborate with business owners to define key business questions and build datasets to answer them. Strong analytical skills are essential for this role.

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any part of Mexico, but preferably in Mexico City, as we would encourage attendance for occasional in-office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in CS or similar and 5+ years professional experience, or MS with 3+ years of Professional experience.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Must have SQL and detailed knowledge of data structures and algorithms

  • Understand the concepts behind distributed databases, and both streaming and batch processing systems.

  • Hands-on experience building and supporting Enterprise level Data warehouses by sourcing data from SaaS applications like Workday, Anaplan, Zuora or other ERPs.

  • Experience with any BI reporting tools like Tableau, Domo.

  • Experience with Databricks, Big Data tools, Python, Apache airflow.

  • Strong Experience in experience in data engineering, dimensional data modeling, ETL development, and Data Warehousing

  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards.

  • History of leading projects independently at scale (company/org wide)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and passionate about collaborating across organizational boundaries

Nice to have:

  • Experience with AI tools and prompt engineering.

  • Experience working with cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP)

  • Knowledge of finance domain - accruals, billing and revenue is a plus

  • Collaboration across the company - needs to be able to partner with many different teams
