About the team

Zillow Group is looking for a Communications Manager within the company’s Communications organization. This person is a key contributor responsible for planning and executing communications strategies and campaigns aligning with Zillow’s B2B, real estate industry-focused strategy. This role will partner closely with other communications and business functions including corporate communications, government relations, marketing, sales, product, and economic research, among others. Focus of this role will be on communicating with real estate industry stakeholders including agents, brokerages, MLSs, and associations. This is an individual contributor role, reporting to Zillow’s Director of Industry Communications.

About the role

Areas of Focus

  • Gain a deep understanding of residential real estate concepts, trends, norms and regulations with the ability to explain complex topics & relevance to internal and external audiences, including reporters

  • Support areas of business by proactively identifying communications opportunities, building and executing communications plans to drive partner and business-focused stories across earned and owned media channels

  • Play a key role in announcement strategy for business initiatives, product launches and enhancements for real estate industry audiences, in coordination with other teams across Zillow

  • Support the creation of reactive messaging and public statements in response to reputational issues including (but not limited to) lawsuits, industry changes, and business decisions

  • Prepare executives for interviews and speaking opportunities -- generate talk tracks, supporting points, Q&A documents, slides, media and speaker coaching

  • Serving as counsel to internal teams, flagging risks and opportunities in real time

  • Work hand in hand with marketing and brand teams to strategize & deploy campaigns (ad, social, video, editorial, event, email, etc.) to reach franchisor, broker and MLS audiences

  • Ability to quickly pivot and effectively prioritize competing work–including the skill to “helicopter” from high level business strategy to execution on smaller, daily tasks with a “no job is too small” attitude

  • Identify and manage Zillow’s presence at industry conferences, including creative amplification, thought leadership, promotional components, prep documents, internal trainings, and event logistics management

  • Writing and editing a variety of internal and external materials, including press releases, blog posts, marketing collateral, op-eds, survey creation, and creative assets, ensuring consistency in tone and messaging

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $105,900.00 - $169,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

  • Extremely organized, with ability to “manage up” to move projects forward

  • An exceptional writer and communicator with a portfolio of engaging content for press releases, blog posts, bylines, and other communication channels

  • Familiarity with AP style is preferred

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, can adapt quickly and effectively to changing priorities & executing under pressure

  • Ability to quickly apply feedback and lessons from failure & use constructively in future projects

  • A supportive teammate willing to mentor others, share success, and roll up their sleeves to help solve problems proactively and reactively

  • Flexibility to travel a few times per year, within the U.S., for team gatherings or external events and occasionally work outside of typical “office hours” in the event of a crisis or business need

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience working in a flexible/remote work environment; comfortable with ‘Work From Home’ technology tools like Slack, G Drive, Zoom etc

Career Experience

  • 7-10 years of experience in communications, preferably in a regulated industry

  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and a hunger to learn

  • Initiates and leads large-scale projects with clear direction and strong collaboration

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with colleagues at all levels in the organization

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills

  • Strong editing experience and attention to detail

  • Results-driven and great at communicating up, down and across the company

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, politics a plus
