The Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) team is focused on providing Zillow an authentication and authorization platform that can scale across one of the largest websites in the US. About the role

You will lead our authentication and authorization strategy, coordinate with product and business teams across the company to align to our vision, and work closely with Senior Engineers to implement, design, and deliver features that are used by millions of users across nearly every team at Zillow. Our Auth strategy is a pivotal feature of our existing technical strategy, and our partner teams are eager to work with a strong leader who can deliver for them quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all stages of application development, including partnering with product and design on feature conception, and leading our development teams in architecture, development, testing, deployment and monitoring.

  • Iterate quickly and ship code when it's ready. You'll help the team shorten our development cycle while maintaining high quality.

  • Develop infrastructure for a cloud platform that can handle high-volume traffic

  • Design Relational, NoSQL and Distributed Processing solutions

  • Ensure software is production-ready and is properly supervised for metrics, logging, and performance profiling

  • Evaluate and recommend the best software designs and architecture for scalability

  • Work with highly capable teammates and combine your creative solutions with the latest industry tools and design patterns to advance our shared technical vision.

  • Provide feedback that will influence design direction for the team’s features.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $186,300.00 - $297,700.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Proven experience in designing, coding, and debugging web applications and backend services at high scale.

  • Strong experience with backend development in one or more programming languages: Golang/Java/Python/C#/etc

  • Strong experience with core database technologies: Relational, NoSQL and ability to know the best tool for the job.

  • Front-end development experience with React/Redux/Sagas, Typescript, ES6 or similar languages/libraries

  • Deep cloud experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.

  • Deep Knowledge of the core concepts and best practices of identity and access management (IAM), such as authentication, authorization, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and conditional access

  • Understanding of Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), Open Authorization (OAuth), OpenID Connect (OIDC), and JSON Web Token (JWT)

  • Ability to multi-task effectively and easily adapt within a fast-paced environment.

  • Validated ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Experience in addressing large application deployment architectures and concerns such as performance, reliability, scalability, availability and security

  • Masters Degree in CS or related technical field.

  • Validated 'hands-on' success with designing and developing IAM architecture frameworks using Identity and Access Management platforms such as Auth0, Okta, Ping Identity or other solutions.

  • Extensive cross-team experience delivering auth solutions as platform capabilities.
