About the role

The AI & Experiences Org is looking for a Distinguished Scientist to help us advance Zillow's mission by formulating and working on science-driven initiatives related to user experiences. This is a growing space, and the team wants to add a curious and intuitive scientist to continually build momentum in this area. The team is staffed with researchers, engineers, and designers developing spatial understanding algorithms and deep learning models that power immersive media experiences for buyers and renters.

As a Distinguished Scientist, you will help create new science-fueled business opportunities, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our team’s technical and research work, and position our scientists and engineers to thrive both within the company and research community. You will be encouraged to challenge established assumptions and expectations, not just by capitalizing on what we already have, but coming up with new ideas that fuel innovation and creativity. Our solutions ingest large volumes of data (imagery and metadata), and process it to build the exciting and immersive experiences that can be explored on zillow.com (http://www.zillow.com).

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $217,100.00 - $346,900.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

As a Distinguished Scientist, you are an innovative thinker in machine learning with a long track record of innovation. You have an understanding of computer vision fundamentals, and when the occasion arises, a roll-up-the-sleeves and get-it-done researcher. We are looking for someone who has:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or Engineering, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or related domain

  • Solid background in computer vision research, building models and algorithms

  • Understanding of 2D/3D geometry and experience framing geometrical problems within modern differentiable frameworks such as PyTorch and Tensorflow

  • Excellent publication record and an excitement to walk us through what you have learned!

  • Practical knowledge of deep learning

  • Communication skills to work collaboratively with peers and leaders across a large organization to develop new technologies

  • Tenacity to embrace and solve ambitious problems

  • Ability to effectively mentor both senior and junior applied scientists
