Position Summary:

Trulioo seeks a highly motivated and talented Product & Privacy Counsel to join its Legal Team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Privacy & Data Protection, the Product & Privacy Counsel will serve as a key member of Trulioo’s global privacy function and provide strategic advice to the business on privacy and data protection to support Trulioo’s suite of identity verification products and services.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting privacy reviews of products, vendors and internal company initiatives involving the processing of personal data
  • Advising Product & Engineering teams and other relevant business units on privacy & data protection requirements related to the development of Trulioo products and services
  • Providing guidance and support to the Commercial Legal Team regarding privacy & data protection issues in customer and supplier contracts, including preparing templates and playbooks, delivering trainings and directly negotiating contracts that raise complex or novel privacy & data protection issues
  • Monitoring global privacy & data protection laws and regulatory trends, developments, and industry best practices
  • Maintaining and updating internal and external privacy and data protection policies, procedures, guidance and other documentation
  • Supporting privacy audits and assessments, responding to customer privacy questionnaires and addressing other privacy-related inquiries from customers, regulators and other stakeholders
  • Providing overall support for the ongoing management and operation of Trulioo’s Global Privacy Program

Education and Professional Skills/Experience:

  • LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent)
  • 2-8 years of experience practicing privacy law at a leading law firm or in-house with exposure to global privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, etc.)
  • Experience with business practices and product counseling in the technology industry
  • Strong commercial skillset with demonstrated contract drafting and negotiation experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to convey complex legal concepts simply while identifying key issues
  • A strong desire to learn the business, associated technologies, and new areas of law, with a practical approach to partnering with business teams
  • IAPP certification (CIPP/E/US/C) considered an asset

Please view the base salary range for this role below. The range listed is our expected compensation for the role. However, the pay offered may vary depending on a variety of factors including qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$130,000$175,000 CAD
