Viator is looking for a dynamic and experienced Director of Data Platform to join our team!
In this role, you will be a key player in our mission to position Viator at the heart of the Experiences ecosystem. You will help solve Petabyte scale challenges in the data ecosystem creating strong capabilities and driving a culture of Data Products that will help us achieve our true potential as a Market place.
What you will do
- Lead Multiple teams focussed on building Data products working closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics and Data science organisation
- Champion ‘Data as a Product’ mindset establishing clear ownership and accountability within the data platform world
- Establish and drive strong delivery focus working in close collaboration with Product Management
- Operate in a multi cloud environment across AWS and GCP focussed on prioritizing business goals
- Help define Technology roadmaps in conjunction with PM and other stakeholders. Provide Thought leadership in this space and support in evaluation of new products/tools in the stack
- Drive adoption of AI across the company by ensuring easily discoverable and well governed data sets
- Define Architectural frameworks in collaboration with upstream Engineering teams for both batch and real time data feeds
- Enhance existing data quality and governance posture and establish best in class computation led governance frameworks
- Help grow the team by attracting best in class talent to work on data platforms
- Coach and grow Technical Managers and Principals you manage, helping them develop skills and advance their careers
- Take responsibility for all aspects of Data engineering, from design to implementation, and maintenance
- Ability to manage teams across geographies and timezones in a remote first environment
- Tech stack : GCP, AWS, Airflow, DBT and Apache Kafka
What you will need
- At least 12 years of experience with at least 6 of them leading teams in Data space
- Experience of directly line managing principal engineers and other technical managers and ability to mentor them
- Strong technical skills and understanding of system architecture across both data and real time systems
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate complex ideas in simple language to senior management
- High quality verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions
- Sense of ownership, urgency and pride in your work
- Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
