The Trust & Safety Moderation and Fraud team is at the very heart of Tripadvisor. Our mission is to help build and maintain trust in our brand and preserve our brand integrity. We are responsible for developing and maintaining complex processing systems and UI tools that help do that.

We are looking for a Technical Manager to lead a team of full-stack engineers in Europe. In this role, you will be leading engineering projects to build out features for the Trust & Safety group, and leading an engineering team responsible for the development and iteration of key platform capabilities on which our internal and external users depend.

In this role you will manage one medium-sized team (~5 engineers). You will be responsible for administering an agile process to manage your team’s work. You will encourage iteration and breaking down complex projects into smaller discrete parts. You will collaborate with the product and business organization to provide and clarify requirements. You will champion software engineering best practices and coach your tech leads and individual contributors on how they can improve their craft and ultimately their career. As a seasoned engineering leader, you are capable of stepping into the shoes of a technical lead, comfortable discussing design and architecture tradeoffs. You will contribute code when time and necessity permits. You will foster a productive, collaborative, and results-driven culture on your team.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead an engineering team as part of a larger organization
  • Champion effective Agile development processes
  • Mentor software engineers to help them develop their software design and development skills. Complete code reviews
  • Track industry trends yet be pragmatic when introducing new technology
  • Show leadership as a hands-on developer in multiple layers of the software stack
  • Show a sense of ownership and pride in your role as a leader and make us believe you will excel
  • Work closely with your Product Manager counterpart and the business owner to prioritize product features along with the engineering-driven tasks, striving for a good balance between business results and engineering robustness.
  • Manage a team towards long-term goals while delivering new capabilities daily
  • Work with everyone from engineers to product owners to VP-level executives to help communicate, prioritize, influence and inform key product decisions.

Skills and Experience:

  • You have a BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • You bring 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer and 1+ years as a manager of Software Engineers.
  • You have been successful in hiring, mentoring, and growing engineers.
  • You have broad working knowledge of full stack web development, RESTful APIs, databases, analytics and operations. The team develops with JavaScript/React, Java, Tomcat, Linux, Snowflake and PostgreSQL, and we’ve recently begun learning and building new components on AWS.
  • You have consistently exceeded expectations throughout your career, and you can describe specific activities and projects that demonstrate this behavior.
  • Cloud Platform experience (AWS) is a valuable plus, as is leading teams working in AWS.
