About This Role
We're looking for a Director, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement to stand up the Procurement function at Strava! You will be the person who designs all of it: the operating model, the commercial strategy, the systems—and then runs it. This is a unique opportunity for those passionate about creating systems and process from scratch.
A key part of this role will be personally negotiating our largest agreements and carrying a savings target agreed with FP&A. You should feel confident bringing analytical rigor to commercial negotiations, know how to restructure a deal to achieve multiple objectives, and be comfortable holding a position despite pushback from senior stakeholders. The majority of your work will be infrastructure spend and B2B SaaS. But the scope of responsibility covers all material areas of spend, including agencies and professional services. This role reports to the General Counsel and is based in our San Francisco office.
We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week.
What You'll Do:
Stand up the Procurement function, defining the operating model, policy, thresholds, and decision rights that govern how Strava buys.
Build and lead the team, starting by hiring and developing a Manager, Procurement Operations, and shaping how the function grows from there.
Own a named portfolio of our largest agreements, leading negotiations personally and holding accountability for commercial outcomes.
Carry a hard savings target, with a baseline methodology agreed with FP&A.
Establish renewal calendar discipline across the portfolio, engaging early enough on major agreements to create genuine leverage.
Develop a negotiation playbook, benchmarking approach, and escalation criteria.
Partner with Legal on contracting, Finance on budget and savings validation, and IT and Security on vendor review, keeping all tracks running in parallel rather than in series.
Drive vendor rationalization across the long tail, identifying overlap, underused licenses, and consolidation opportunities.
Give leadership clear, credible visibility into what we spend, with whom, and what we're getting for it.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
The instinct of a builder. You are energized rather than daunted by an empty org chart and an undefined process.
Genuine commercial rigor. You treat a negotiation as an enjoyable analytical problem and know how to strategically leverage every position.
Judgment and standing to hold a position under pressure, and the relationship skills to do so without becoming an obstacle people route around.
Proactively spotting potential issues and taking initiative to resolve them, understanding that "nothing is somebody else's problem."
A collaborative, no-task-is-beneath-me approach to your work.
Professionalism without ego.
Requirements:
10+ years experience building a procurement or strategic sourcing function
Substantial experience negotiating enterprise B2B SaaS and technology agreements, with a demonstrable record of Finance-validated commercial improvement.
People management experience, including hiring, developing, and retaining team members.
Fluency translating spend data into a commercial narrative for executive audiences.
Exposure to public company or pre-IPO purchasing controls, segregation of duties, and audit requirements.
Confidence using modern tools and systems (e.g., Zip, Ironclad, Slack, Notion, AI) to amplify impact.
