At Strava, we know our employees are the most important ingredient to our success, and our compensation and total rewards programs reflect that. We take a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on the department and your location. Salary ranges are categorized into one of three zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. We will determine the candidate’s starting pay based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. We may modify these ranges in the future.

About Strava

Strava is the app for active people. With over 180 million athletes in more than 185 countries, it’s more than tracking workouts—it’s where people make progress together, from new habits to new personal bests. No matter your sport or how you track it, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your goals, and make every effort count. Start your journey with Strava today.

Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.

About This Role

Some of the most important problems at Strava don't belong to any one team. They're cross-stack, ambiguous, and high-stakes, and they need someone who can walk in, figure out what's actually going wrong, and drive the fix. This role exists to be that person.

You'll report directly to a Senior Director of Product Engineering and join a small bench of exceptional individual contributors deployed against Strava's riskiest and least-understood technical problems. You'll think across client and server at the same time, move between initiatives as priorities shift, and bridge what's on fire today with what we need to build next. You'll also help drive change in newly integrated parts of the business, including our work with Runna.

We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office, three days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Drop into ambiguous, cross-stack problems and diagnose what's actually happening before prescribing a fix

  • Reason fluently across client and server systems to unblock high-priority product initiatives. You will work across iOS, Android, Go and Scala platforms.

  • Drive measurable impact on critical bets, starting with initiatives in our organic growth and subscriber value areas

  • Act as a trusted agent of change inside teams and parts of the business you don't own

  • Partner with leadership and senior ICs to surface recurring product and technical opportunities worth attacking proactively

  • Set technical direction and bring people with you on the highest-risk work in the company

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Genuine full-stack range, with the ability to operate in systems you didn't build

  • A track record of entering unscoped, cross-team technical problems and driving them to resolution

  • The ability to influence and drive change without formal authority

  • Senior technical judgment: you set direction, earn the trust of leadership, and operate well in ambiguity

  • Experience navigating a recently acquired or integrated organization is a plus

  • A prior tiger-team, fixer, or SWAT-style role at scale is a plus
