At Spotify Advertising, our part of that mission is to build the next generation advertising platform which can scale the freemium experience for hundreds of millions of fans and tens of thousands of advertisers. We are looking for a Backend Engineer that will join the Spotify Advertising team. You will use your strong backend engineering and data skills to expand and enrich our advertising offerings. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.

What You’ll Do

  • Work day-to-day in a cross functional team to build and expand our Ads API and the underlying data systems
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and data scientists
  • Deliver testable, maintainable, and high-quality code
  • Share knowledge, promote best practices, and collaborate with some of the best engineers in the company

Who You Are

  • You know how to build and maintain Java backend services
  • You write clean, well tested, highly maintainable Java code with a clear separation of concerns
  • You have a good understanding of database systems such as postgres, and can optimise database interactions for scale and performance
  • You have had exposure to Data Engineering pipelines eg Scala, Apache Beam
  • You are experienced with CI/CD pipelines
  • You care about code quality, developing and demonstrating compelling solutions
  • You are a good communicator and an empathetic, attentive listener with the capability to anticipate the needs of partners
  • You are comfortable working in an agile environment, and are comfortable challenging yourself and your team to improve their ways of working
  • You have delivered high impact backend projects that you can tell us about

Where You’ll Be

  • You’ll be based in Australia, within a region in which we have a work location (Sydney or Melbourne)

  • Working hours? We operate within the Australian Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and often need to communicate with our other team members in US PST and ET
