The Senior Digital Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, scalability, and continuous improvement of NGNRI’s digital infrastructure. This role serves as a key technical resource supporting cloud services, enterprise systems, research computing needs, laboratory technology integration, and end-user support. Working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and the Digital Team, the incumbent develops and maintains the digital foundation required to support scientific research and operational excellence.

About the role

  • Administer and maintain cloud infrastructure, identity management systems, and core digital services to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing operations

  • Partner with internal and external IT teams to support networking, hardware, software, and technology services across the organization

  • Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate escalation with vendors or service providers when necessary

  • Collaborate with research and laboratory teams to integrate scientific instruments, software applications, databases, and digital technologies into the broader infrastructure environment

  • Manage user access, onboarding and offboarding processes, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and business continuity practices

  • Ensure compliance with security, data protection, regulatory, and institutional requirements while maintaining appropriate governance and risk controls

  • Support research computing initiatives, including coordination with high-performance computing resources and data analysis platforms

  • Manage technology vendors, contribute to procurement activities, maintain technical documentation, and support the ongoing development of the organization’s digital technology roadmap

About you

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • 5 years of experience managing IT infrastructure in a small-to-medium sized organization

  • Experience administering cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

  • Experience supporting Windows, Linux, and macOS environments

  • Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash

  • Experience managing identity and access systems and implementing security controls

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting research, healthcare, life sciences, or laboratory environments

  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments

  • Experience with containerization and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Docker, Terraform, or Ansible

  • Familiarity with scientific software applications, databases, or laboratory instrument integrations

  • Knowledge of security frameworks and regulatory requirements such as NIST, CIS, HIPAA, or research data governance standards
