Pophouse is seeking a Senior Interior Designer with creative and technical experience to join our team. As an ideal candidate, you will have extensive experience leading large-scale projects for a variety of commercial clients. With a passion for thoughtful design and a dedication to client satisfaction, you'll be instrumental in combining creativity and technical knowledge to provide design excellence for our clients. Innovative ideas, advanced communication skills, and a positive attitude are required to build and foster relationships with our team and clients.
About the role
- Lead the design of large- and small-scale projects, including pre-design, programming client needs, schematic design, design development, and construction administration efforts
- Direct and provide mentorship and coaching within project teams to support the growth and development of design team members
- Develop expertise based on varying scales of work, scope of projects, and phases of design
- Create and develop overall design narratives and innovative design solutions and drive to execution throughout entire project lifecycle
- Manage to Pophouse design process and lead design critiques and charrettes with design team and senior leadership
- Formulate design presentation strategies and lead client presentations
- Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, fabrics, equipment, material palettes, and lighting
- Manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination to ensure all client goals and objectives are met
- Maintain strong client communication throughout entire design and construction process
- Manage client interaction and decision-making related to design intent
- Establish and maintain ongoing relationships built on trust with external consultants, vendors, fabricators, and architects
- Create and communicate clear and attainable project goals, objectives, and requirements throughout entire project duration
- Accountable for quality and technical standards within the work according to Pophouse standards
- Accountable to Studio Director

- Ability to travel periodically
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from an accredited college or university, CIDA accredited program preferred
- 8+ years of professional experience in interior design
- 6-8 years of experience in commercial interiors required
- NCIDQ Certification, LEED Accreditation a plus
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- 3D Computer rendering skills (SketchUp, 3Ds Max, and/or other modeling software)
- Experience in Specifying Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E)
- Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications
- Advanced graphic and verbal presentation skills, including hand sketching, required

Started in 2013, Pophouse is a full-scope design studio focused on the built environment. Located in Detroit, Michigan, we work on both commercial and residential projects with a specialty in workplace, hospitality, and retail as well as home office design. Our team of designers and strategists work to positively impact people through interior, industrial, and environmental graphic design.
Leveraging industry research and business intelligence, we begin every project with a meaningful strategy that informs our design narrative. The design narrative is then carried through every aspect of the project including finishes, space plans, custom furniture, branding, wayfinding, signage, and artwork to transform the space into one that highlights culture, increases productivity, and optimizes business outcomes.
