Role summary

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our Checkout business line as Director, Head of Risk & Operations. This role will lead Risk Management and Operations functions, ensuring seamless merchant onboarding, robust risk controls, and scalable processes that support our rapid growth while exceeding Risk KPIs.

You will roll up your sleeves and work closely with your teams, driving operational excellence, implementing risk frameworks and processes, and enabling a best-in-class merchant experience. The role requires close collaboration with commercial teams, strong business orientation, and a sharp understanding of market needs to ensure our solutions remain competitive and customer-focused.

What you’ll do

  • Lead & Inspire: Manage and develop global teams of operations and risk specialists, fostering a culture of accountability, customer centricity, and continuous improvement.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee merchant onboarding, operational workflows, and first-line merchant support processes. Identify gaps, streamline processes, and implement scalable solutions.
  • Risk Leadership: Own the execution of risk policies across underwriting, fraud prevention, and credit risk management for merchants and buyers in the PSP space.
  • Be Hands-On: Dive into operational and risk processes to ensure critical issues are resolved quickly and effectively.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage data and analytics to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive informed decision-making across risk and operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Commercial teams and Compliance to align on business objectives, mitigate risks, and deliver exceptional merchant experiences
  • Scale for Growth: Build frameworks and processes that enable rapid scaling while maintaining compliance, risk appetite and cost optimization
  • Budget & Vendor Management: Own team budgets and manage relationships with vendors to ensure cost efficiency and service quality.
  • Regulatory & Governance: Ensure adherence to global regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.

Who you are

  • Experience: 10+ years in risk management (underwriting, fraud, and credit risk) and operations within the payments industry, preferably at a global PSP.
  • Leadership: Proven track record managing global teams (5+ FTE) across multiple geographies.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of payment flows, merchant acquiring, and risk frameworks.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with data analytics, automation tools, and technology-driven solutions.
  • Strategic & Hands-On: Ability to think big while executing operational details with precision.
  • Communication: Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence at all levels.
