About the role
Reporting in to the chief Legal Officer of Nu Mexico, the Public Policy Director will lead a team of 5 people. The team is responsible for representing Nu Mexico before Congress, regulators, academia and civil society. The main responsibilities for the area include:
Keys responsibilities and Expectations :
- Monitor, assess and influence public policy matters of importance to Nu Mexico
- Maintain and develop relationships with relevant stakeholders in Mexico, creating advocacy strategies with relevant government stakeholders; develop a policy program by identifying core partnerships to create opportunities to showcase Nu's positive impact on Mexican society
- Lead a team dedicated to assess relevant legislative proposals, and drafting position papers, presentations, talking points, studies and any other materials necessary to advance our policy agenda; provide political analysis and regulatory trends to secure Nu business growth; provide input and advice on business development opportunities and long-term business strategies
- Monitor, assess and influence consumer protection matters while liaising with relevant stakeholders for this subject matter
- Represent Nu at industry gatherings, trade associations, and coalition meetings
- Manage policy crisis liaising with Comms, Legal, Compliance and other relevant teams and propose clear solutions when required; escalate issues to leadership for decision as needed
- Manage the Public Policy team under your responsibility, helping to develop and direct these professionals
- Influence complex discussions and convey different perspectives and narratives into robust deliverable plans
- Support internal teams in the development of new products and features and their need to engage with regulators
- Inform internal teams on emerging regulatory and legislative issues;
- Provide regular reports to Nu Mexico's executive leadership, escalating relevant issues when necessary
- Collaborate with and support the efforts of our Legal and Compliance teams in their engagement with regulators when needed
Qualifications :
- 10 or more years of experience as a policy/government affairs professional, with previous experience of engaging with industry associations, regulators, and government authorities;
- Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework in which Nu Mexico operates. Able to identify threats and opportunities in legislative or regulatory initiatives;
- Support the creation of clear and concise written and visual materials advocating Nu Mexico’s positions;
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication and relationship skills;
- Experience in the financial services/payments industry (banks and/or fintechs) is a must.
