The Technical Merchandising team members are the guardians of our merchandising capabilities. As a Technical Merchandising Configuration Lead, you will drive the execution and implementation of our merchandising configurations and capabilities across the Netflix service.

This role requires deep expertise in how our product and merchandising techniques work, and how we develop and optimize them over time to scale and support our business. You will work in close partnership with the Senior Manager of Configurations, Member Experience, and Content Platform Product Management teams to translate merchandising strategies into technical implementations.

The position demands technical depth and expertise while serving as a bridge between content strategy and platform implementation. You will help ensure our merchandising capabilities effectively connect members to our world of entertainment, creating a Netflix experience that is engaging, relevant and truly delightful for everyone, everywhere.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Configuration Leadership

  • Execute the vision and requirements for merchandising configurations and capabilities - working with Member Experience and Content Platform Product Management teams to integrate merchandising program requirements into overall core roadmaps

  • Partner on the development of new merchandising capabilities and work with the Performance manager to integrate experimentation frameworks and performance evaluation

  • Ensure the broader team adopts new capabilities and deeply understands requirements for effective utilization

  • Implement and maintain merchandising guidelines and principles for when/how merchandising modules are used

Technical Support and Implementation

  • In partnership with other technical merchandising experts, evaluate business needs and contribute to roadmap prioritization

  • Understand the technical capabilities and limitations of our merchandising systems and use this knowledge to determine how we best support business needs

  • Develop deep expertise in merchandising capabilities and innovation needs

Process and Operations

  • Implement the required processes to track merchandising configurations and work with Merchandising Operations Leads to ensure ongoing tracking health

  • Create technical documentation for merchandising configurations and capabilities

  • Support the testing and quality assurance of new merchandising features

  • Collaborate with the Technical Merchandising Specialist to develop and maintain technical runbooks and training materials

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues across product management, insights, design, and data science to develop great merchandising experiences

  • Partner with regional teams to ensure merchandising configurations support local needs

  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Configurations to align on strategic priorities and technical direction

  • Provide technical merchandising expertise to cross-functional teams and initiatives

Qualifications

Technical Merchandising Expertise

  • 8+ years of experience in merchandising functions

  • Experience in developing scaled merchandising modules/configurations for products; ideally, experience in building B2C merchandising configurations at a large organization

  • Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly - including how merchandising 'works' (technical stack), how to innovate and develop new opportunities

  • Experience in developing self-service tooling

  • Experience in merchandising performance management a plus

  • Experience in understanding recommendation systems a plus

  • Past experience in product management or similar roles is a plus

Technical and Analytical Skills

  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities with a focus on practical implementation

  • Experience with merchandising systems and tool integrations

  • Comfortable working with and analyzing data to derive actionable insights

  • Ability to translate business merchandising strategies into technically driven solutions

  • Knowledge of digital product development processes and content management systems

Communication and Collaboration

  • Strategic, analytical thinker with a strong customer-focused mindset

  • Excellent written (memos and presentations) and verbal communication skills; timely communication

  • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and effectively influence and contribute with concrete recommendations/next steps, across both regional and global teams

  • Experience working effectively with technical and non-technical teams

  • Skilled at explaining complex technical concepts in accessible ways

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and drive alignment amid ambiguity

Location of Work

The Product Merchandising organization embraces flexibility in location of work with some employees working in a hybrid in-office model and some working remotely across the US. Please note that travel to the CA offices will be required for remote team members for key meetings as needed and occasional leadership and/or team gatherings. An expectation of availability to work PST hours is required, as many cross-functional partners are based on the West Coast.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $330,000.00 - $500,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.
