The Role: The Manager, Communications (Korea) is a key contributor on the team responsible for promoting and protecting Netflix’s reputation and its business in Korea. This role will develop and execute strategic communications plans, announcements, high-level pitches, and executive briefings. Based in Seoul, the Manager will work across various business functions to contextualize Netflix’s impact on the local creative ecosystem and report to the Senior Director of Communications.

The ideal candidate will have a finger on the pulse of Korean culture with extensive experience in entertainment/media or tech sectors, including working directly with press, production and business partners. They will be a strategic storyteller and a proactive leader, capable of making wise decisions and exercising sound judgment even when faced with ambiguity. They will be a collaborative team player, resourceful, and solution-oriented, with a deep understanding of the unique nuances of the Korean media landscape.

Responsibilities: Tasks are timely and varied. They include but are not limited to -

  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development and execution of communications strategies that protect and enhance Netflix’s corporate reputation and content / business leadership in Korea.

  • Media Relations: Build and nurture exceptional relationships with key editors and reporters across traditional and digital media (business, tech, culture, and entertainment desks).

  • Content & Messaging: Draft and refine high-stakes communications materials, including press releases, reactive statements, executive talking points, and briefing documents.

  • Issue Management: Proactively identify potential brand risks and develop effective mitigation strategies and messaging to address complex business and industry issues.

  • Storytelling: Identify impactful story angles and secure high-profile coverage that highlights Netflix’s investment in the Korean creative community and tech innovation.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with every function across the business to ensure a unified narrative and provide holistic insight that affects the reputation.

Qualifications:

  • 8~15 years of experience in corporate communications or PR agencies, with a significant focus on the entertainment, tech, or media industries in Korea.

  • Strong, existing media relationships at major Korean outlets, including business, trade, and consumer publications.

  • Proven ability to handle a high volume of complex projects and tasks while simultaneously managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Mastery of the Korean language with an ability to capture subtle nuances, combined with professional fluency in English for global collaboration.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex business concepts into clear, compelling narratives.

  • Meticulous organizational skills, sound judgment regarding brand risks, and effective time management.

  • A curious and ambitious self-starter who understands what drives cultural conversation in Korea and how Netflix can remain at the forefront.

  • Deep passion for the evolving entertainment landscape and a strong working knowledge of local social platforms and trends.
