At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Role

Netflix is seeking a Manager/Counsel to join our Production Legal Team focused on drafting above-the-line agreements for scripted live action series. While the successful candidate will primarily focus on U.S. and Canadian productions, experience with international markets (e.g., the UK) is valued. This role is based in Los Angeles, CA.

Core Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle production legal management: Own the legal process for series projects from early script development through post-production and global exhibition.

  • Contract negotiation: Draft and negotiate writer, showrunner, producer, director, actor, and other above-the-line talent agreements, demonstrating a deep understanding of industry standards and customs and ensuring alignment with Netflix practices.

  • Strategic problem-solving: Clearly and succinctly communicate solutions to internal production and business partners as well as external producers and production personnel. You understand the importance of consistency across our projects, but build bespoke, creative solutions where needed in order to enable creative vision.

  • Cross-functional partnership: Serve as the primary legal point of contact internally and externally for production legal matters arising during the lifespan of a series. Partner with the Business Affairs team to ensure our legal approach is consistent with our business objectives.

  • Relationship building: Cultivate and maintain strong ties with external counterparties, agencies, and production executives.

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional critical thinking: Keen ability to prioritize issues based on business impact. You understand (or seek to understand) the “why” and see your work within the broader context of the business.

  • Agility and poise: You’re comfortable with the timelines of production and can switch between varied tasks without losing focus.

  • Execution within a team: You have the confidence to work autonomously but understand the importance of team alignment.

  • Curiosity: You have a growth mindset and seek to learn new substantive skills. You’re open to fresh perspectives and updating practices to meet an evolving business.

  • Impeccable judgment: You are detail-oriented and approach legal risk from a practical perspective.

  • Dream team: You model our core values and take pride in holding yourself, along with those around you, to a high standard of excellence and integrity.

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS, JD, and bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in scripted television legal affairs, with direct experience drafting and negotiating above-the-line production agreements for scripted series.

  • A firm grasp of all aspects of the development, production, and distribution of scripted television and robust industry knowledge.

  • Proficiency in cloud-based document and database systems (e.g., Google Suite).
