The Team

The Privacy & Data Protection Engineering (PDPE) organization at Netflix ensures responsible data use and provides confidence that privacy and security risks are managed across the company. PDPE is a cross-functional team comprising Privacy Engineering, Data Protection, and Privacy Infrastructure Engineering.

The Privacy Infrastructure Engineering team plays a key role in this mission. We work closely with our stunning colleagues in privacy engineering and data protection designing and building privacy and data protection solutions for the entire company. We promote privacy-enhancing designs, set engineering standards and build systems to ensure Netflix is managing data correctly. We are a small and agile team with tremendous visibility and impact.

The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to build privacy engineering solutions spanning over the entire Netflix infrastructure. In this role, you will partner closely with other software engineers, data scientists and TPMs to design, prototype, develop, run and improve data detection, classification and metadata systems at scale. This role provides an unique opportunity to work across diverse environments including distributed systems, data streaming and data warehouse. You will have the opportunity to innovate, solve challenging problems and impact the business in a meaningful way.

Desired Background

  • You are passionate about privacy and data protection. However, prior experience in privacy engineering is not required.

  • You are a strong software engineer highly proficient in Java.

  • You have experience developing software and building services and automation.

  • You have a strong interest in working with data, large data sets, and modern data platforms.

  • You have a bias towards action and are comfortable navigating through ambiguous environments.

  • You’re excited about demonstrating excellence, learning new technologies and growing your career.

Nice to have

  • You have experience using SQL (any variant) with large data sets.

  • You have experience in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive, Presto, Spark, Flink) on medium to large scale data sets.

  • You have experience with large language models (LLMs) and machine learning.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $260,000.00 - $459,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.
