The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced senior counsel to join the Netflix legal team. The role will be responsible for managing regulatory compliance, litigation, and corporate legal functions in our Seoul office. The role will lead and mentor a group of counsels while providing strategic guidance on navigating the intersection of Korean law and our business culture. The role will report to the Korea General Counsel, based in Seoul, Korea.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage regulatory compliance across Netflix’s various businesses in Korea, including engaging with and responding to relevant regulatory bodies and government authorities.

  • Provide strategic legal advice on Korean regulatory and corporate matters impacting data privacy, consumer protection, competition, labor, and emerging areas affecting Netflix’s evolving business models.

  • Oversee and manage litigation, disputes, and government investigations, including coordinating with external counsel and developing risk mitigation and resolution strategies.

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of in-house counsels, fostering professional development while ensuring high-quality, practical, and business-oriented legal support.

  • Partner closely with global and regional legal teams to ensure alignment with Netflix’s broader business goals while appropriately localizing compliance approaches for the Korean market.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have 15+ years of relevant legal experience, either in-house and/or at a leading law firm, with substantial exposure to regulatory compliance, litigation, and corporate legal matters in Korea, ideally within the media, entertainment, technology, or similarly regulated industries. The candidate must have demonstrated experience engaging with regulatory authorities, government bodies, and the judiciary in Korea.

The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Korean and English, as well as the ability to clearly translate complex legal issues into practical, business-oriented guidance for senior stakeholders. Given the highly cross-functional nature of the role, strong collaboration, influence, and interpersonal skills are essential.

The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Deep expertise in Korean regulatory compliance and litigation management within the context of media/technology/entertainment industries, and active bar membership in good standing in Korea.

  • Ability to think commercially and pragmatically, providing clear, solution-oriented advice in a fast-paced, innovative, and often ambiguous environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders, including business executives, regulators, and outside counsel, while navigating fast-evolving and cutting-edge legal issues.

  • Strategic mindset and leadership capability, including experience leading, mentoring, and developing other lawyers, and influencing outcomes without relying on hierarchy.

  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to take on matters outside one’s core area of expertise, with the confidence to learn quickly and adapt.

  • Flexibility to collaborate across time zones and work closely with regional and global legal teams.

  • Highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and discretion, and a demonstrated commitment to Netflix’s culture and values (see Netflix’s culture memo)

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.
