As a Network Test Engineer, you will design network testing solutions for our network backbone, our Corporate offices, our creative production workflows, and our data center networks globally. You will own network test strategy end-to-end - from test design through execution and analysis - while partnering closely with our internal Networking teams and external vendors to ensure our solutions perform as expected.

This role requires a proficient collaborator with a broad set of network engineering skills, a dev-ops/automation-forward mindset to network testing, and an impressive past of unique career and life experiences to bring to our diverse team of experts.

There are multiple disciplines that this team needs to support. We’re looking for a network test engineer with experience designing and testing backbone, campus and data center networks with particular focus on testing and automation. This skillset should include in-depth understanding of networking technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering field, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience in networking fields with demonstrable technical experience in content delivery, media, ISP, CDN, or large-scale internet environments.

  • Strong knowledge of network testing strategy, automation, and iterative design.

  • Experience managing, developing, or working in a lab environment for both product or feature development and for regression or defect testing against a production environment. This experience would also include using automation and off-the-shelf test equipment, and software in a test environment

  • Experience with using IXIA and/or Spirent IP test equipment and tooling

  • Experience in vendor engagement, including managing technical relationships and troubleshooting

  • Experience in design and implementation of technologies in Campus architecture. including Layer 2 stretch technologies, voice and video collaboration, and zero-trust standards for scalable security models

  • Strong understanding of IP routing, particularly BGP, ISIS with an understanding of the Internet ecosystem

  • Solid understanding of content delivery, data center, and enterprise networking concepts and technologies

  • Familiarity with large-scale multi-vendor (Arista, Cisco, Juniper, Nokia) networks with global footprints

  • Familiarity with network automation. Basic experience in a scripting language or programming

  • Exposure to VXLAN technologies and MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs

  • Exposure to modeling and designing network topologies with consideration to technologies such as MPLS-TE

  • Exposure to optical transport systems for metropolitan area networks

What you will be doing:

  • Working closely with Network Architecture and Engineering teams to build, refine, and evolve how we validate hardware and software for Netflix’s Backbone, CDN infrastructure, data centers, and campus networks.

  • Creating a full end-to-end network test strategy for hardware and software, and subsequently deliver test results to other teams that will plan, deploy, operate and deprecate these designs

  • Develop technical documentation, diagrams, and templates while being rigorous in maintaining the accuracy and relevancy of developed materials

  • Provide technical support and guidance for operational matters

  • Liaison for operational and deployment teams into our lab environments for both managed and self-serve testing
