The opportunity
We are looking for a talented and passionate counsel to join the Netflix legal team in Seoul. This role will focus on providing transactional legal support for a wide range of B2B commercial agreements with telecommunications companies, major internet and technology companies, and consumer electronics manufacturers. The role will be responsible for handling agreements that play a critical role in driving Netflix’s membership growth and distribution strategies in Korea, including bundle, device, and strategic partnership deals. The role will report to the Korea General Counsel, based in Seoul, Korea.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Draft, review, negotiate, and execute a variety of B2B commercial agreements with Netflix’s business development partners, independently for routine matters and under the supervision of another counsel for more complex or strategic deals.
Support transactions involving membership bundles, device partnerships, and other distribution-related initiatives with telcos, consumer electronics companies, and other technology partners.
Advise on legal issues arising from product integration with partners, partner marketing activities, and regulatory compliance matters, to ensure smooth and speedy execution of partnership initiatives.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve contract templates, clause libraries, and playbooks to promote efficiency, consistency, and help enable faster and innovative deal-making as the business scales.
Conduct legal research and contribute to knowledge management efforts related to ongoing and completed partnership transactions, including tracking deal structures, key risks, and evolving market practices.
Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders such as Business Development, Finance, Product, and Operations teams to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice that supports deal execution.
Assist in training and educating internal stakeholders on legal best practices, contractual fundamentals, and common issues encountered in B2B commercial transactions.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, either in-house and/or at a leading law firm, with meaningful hands-on experience drafting and negotiating B2B commercial agreements. Experience in the media, entertainment, telecommunications, or technology industries is preferred but not required.
The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Korean, as well as the ability to explain legal and regulatory issues in a clear, practical, and business-oriented manner to a diverse group of internal stakeholders. Given the highly cross-functional nature of the role, the candidate must be comfortable collaborating closely with business teams and legal colleagues across functions and regions.
The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate the following:
Experience drafting, negotiating, and managing B2B commercial agreements in English, with appropriate guidance on more complex or novel deal structures, with a bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
A solid understanding of basic deal structures and contract administration across the lifecycle of a commercial agreement.
Sound legal judgment and analytical skills, with the ability to identify key risks, propose practical solutions, and balance legal considerations with business priorities.
The ability to manage multiple matters in parallel in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
Comfort working with global contract templates, policies, and stakeholders, and the ability to adapt and localize legal advice for the Korean legal and business environment.
Intellectual curiosity and openness to learning new areas, including evolving products, technologies, and business models.
High standards of professional ethics, integrity, and discretion, and alignment with Netflix’s culture and values.(see Netflix’s culture memo)
