Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

How do you spark joy in hundreds of millions of people? It starts with a vision - that technology can give voice to stories around the world. In delivering those much-loved stories, Netflix is responsible for a significant portion of global internet traffic.

To steward that responsibility, we work collaboratively with ISPs to deploy Open Connect, Netflix’s Content Delivery Network (CDN), which delivers 100% of Netflix's video traffic. Our team’s mission is to support that delivery by ensuring the smooth coordination and operation of the Open Connect Appliances (OCAs) deployed by the thousands around the world, to provide a fantastic viewing experience for all Netflix members.

We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to lead the engineering teams responsible for the Open Connect edge software stack. In this role, the successful candidate would be responsible for executing and defining the future of the roadmap for the teams that provide content delivery, and unified edge ingress.

The Role

Open Connect’s CDN Edge teams are responsible for the availability, scalability, and usability of the functionality that enables other businesses to be successful. Our platform is a fundamental building block to our streaming initiatives - providing the critical software stack solutions for one of the world’s largest CDNs and empowering stakeholders to leverage the CDN more efficiently and reliably. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The design, development, and operational support of software and systems to efficiently manage and deliver large, small and dynamic assets from a wide variety of network locations all around the world

  • Support the coordinated deployment userland applications for both HTTP and DNS, to provide planet-scale services to end-users

  • Build new features and capabilities to support the Netflix business’s needs for fast, reliable delivery of new media content

  • Rapidly iterate in the arena of highly dynamic workloads (such as Live video streaming, with Dynamic Ad Insertion) to enable a unique scale of delivery for these solutions

  • Nurture and expand a high performance, healthy engineering organization

  • Drive and contribute to collaborative projects across engineering (eg clients, encoding) and other functions (eg operations, capacity planning)

This highly visible role requires building great partnerships with senior engineering and operations leaders. We are looking for a leader with experience leading successful large-scale CDN edge or cloud ingress infrastructure and a strong and in-depth understanding of the experience of edge software teams so they can be a strong advocate for velocity, iteration, and reliability, ensuring the internal teams that depend on Open Connect continue to enjoy market-leading economics, scale and reliability.

You Are

  • An empathetic and humble leader with deep expertise to draw on, combined with a natural curiosity to learn more

  • Someone who keeps their technical skills sharp with meaningful engineering work

  • Able to see beyond immediate specifications, can summarize requirements, and architect forward-looking solutions that cross multiple applications

  • Capable of working in a highly-collaborative environment alongside your teammates, engineers, Partner Engagement Managers, project managers, and operations teams

  • Articulate in communicating opportunities for continuous improvements to existing systems with a clear understanding of the impact on the business.

  • Always striving to develop and deploy in measured increments while taking responsibility for the quality of your teams’ work

Required Skills

  • Experience leading teams responsible for architecture and development of large scale, highly efficient, reliable, and manageable content delivery systems

  • Thorough technical understanding of internet architecture, video streaming, and related topics

  • Experience designing, implementing, debugging and operating large scale 24/7 production systems

  • Exceptional communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and leadership skills
