The Role
Content Acquisition Engineering works on technology to help capture deal points from inception to end. This is inclusive of all stages across the deal life cycle: commercially agreed terms that turn into papered contracts to inform development & production execution, talent relationship management (contractual aspects), financial commitments, options/contractual date tracking and compliant exploitation of our content & music rights. The structure and recording of this data enables precedent discovery, which informs future negotiations.
What you will do
You will lead a large team of software engineers to deliver high-impact results. Your responsibilities in this role include:
- Stakeholder management and Product thinking - Ability to manage a large team and work with multiple Product, Design, and Data science partners across four different spaces: Content Rights, Music Rights, Copyright Protection, and Business and Legal Affairs.
- Manage, mentor, and grow early career talent. Engineering fundamentals and basic coaching on best practices are a necessity.
- Develop an Engineering culture that is Product-focused, and opinionated, that connects the dots between Product opportunity and leverage across the Studio ecosystem.
- Ability to operate and drive the Product forward when our product management partners are stretched thin. This ability ensures progress and innovation even in the absence of product direction.
- Recognize key contributions from the team and partners to keep them engaged and motivated in a space that is critical for Netflix’s business. The ability to elevate their work to keep leadership aware of the team's contributions and impact is crucial.
- Foster a strong accountability culture in the team and help them reliably and in a timely manner deliver their roadmap to support the needs of key business stakeholders.
- Act as a credible technical advisor to the team; help the team make thoughtful, informed decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Connect the dots across peer teams to selflessly prioritize work beyond the scope of your own domain.
What are we looking for
- Experience building and operating extremely reliable products and services used in enterprise settings supporting critical use cases, including running 24x7 on-call.
- Experience growing large (12 engineers in the organization), high-performing engineering teams.
- Ability to prioritize strategically and align the team’s work with larger business goals. Have the courage to pivot based on broader impacts.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity while creating more clarity for the team.
- Ability to influence the strategic direction of partners and stakeholders.
- Strong technical background. The candidate will serve as a sounding board for technical decisions as well as be able to communicate those decisions across the organization.
Bonus Experience
- Ability to see through investments in AI work to transform Business and Legal Affairs workflows in deals, contracts & rights to surface insights, and connect the dots with adjacent systems using engineering influence.
- Experience working on applications related to Rights, Deals, Contracts, and other legal workflows.
- Experience building back-office applications for large entertainment or technology companies.
- Experience working with Contract Lifecycle Management tools.
