We are looking for a new Junior Legal Counsel to become part of our Legal team to join this mission, with the HQ located at the beautiful and iconic Keizersgracht in Amsterdam! As a Junior Legal Counsel you have a crucial role in our focus to professionalise the business at the very foundation of it, and to support the further growth of Mollie .
You will be part of Mollie’s wider legal team consisting of the General Counsel, three Legal Counsels and our Paralegal. You will report to the Legal Counsel focussing more on commercial contracting. In this role you will work cross-functional with other departments to break those silos and jointly contribute to our mission! You will be working on bigger Mollie-wide projects aimed at new product launches, large partnerships and expansion in Europe. Don’t worry; you will also be responsible for your own projects and tasks.

You have a sense for the relevant legislation for Mollie and are eager to implement improvements within the business. You have excellent communication skills and an eye for detail, but know how to focus on the bigger picture. You are flexible and can prioritise in an international and fast-paced environment. You enjoy the challenge of winning people over and encouraging change. With your people and communication skills you are a sound stakeholder manager.
What you’ll be doing
As a Junior Legal Counsel you will work across a spectrum of legal, business and strategic issues. You will:
Draft, review and negotiate agreements with our customers, partners and suppliers;
Assist in the commercial contracting with new payment methods and other product offerings.
Manage disputes and claims from customers, merchants and suppliers, also together with external counsel;
Manage all-day incoming requests from teams within the organization, as well as with external counsels, authorities, bailiffs and supervisory bodies to collaborate;
Advise on various other legal topics, such as corporate housekeeping, corporate governance, insurance and IP-protection;
Assist Mollie in complying with applicable legal and financial regulatory requirements;
Support the development of legal operations and scalable contracting, and increase the efficiency and scalability of commercial legal support;
Provide internal training to the business on legal aspects to enhance their professionalism; and
Where needed assist the Regulatory Legal Counsel and Employment Legal Counsel in a variety of legal queries, such as license expansion or sound remuneration.
What you'll bring
Advanced law degree from a European University, with excellent academic credentials and professional experience;
Between 2 and 4 years of relevant working experience, gained at a top-tier law firm or in-house department;
Experience with and passion for drafting and negotiating complex contracts;
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to adapt to a changing business when needed;
A pragmatic and commercial approach;
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in Dutch and English and proficient in working with cross department colleagues;
A willingness to jump in and do whatever needs to be done in an enthusiastic, proactive, and resourceful manner;
A strong work ethic with a high degree of accountability and organisational skills; and
Persistent in your legal judgment and advice.
Nice to haves:
Familiarity with payment or financial services industries and knowledge of associated regulatory issues.
First hand experience with growing companies, particularly those involved in highly regulated industries.
