Compliance Manager
Legal, Sales & Business Development
Stockholm, Sweden
Klarna, briefly
At Klarna, we’re building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances. Working here means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else — you’ll build with AI, not watch it happen.
This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you’re capable of.
About the role
Klarna Bank AB is a Swedish-licensed bank, and its consumer credit and payment products reach customers through branches and cross-border services across the EU. Each of those products has to meet regulators’ expectations and treat customers fairly. As the subject matter expert on consumer protection and conduct for Klarna’s EU business, you’re the person who makes sure they do.
You’ll work day to day with operational teams and regularly with senior stakeholders, in an international organisation. Because the position covers several markets, you’ll see how supervisory expectations differ from one regulator to the next, and you’ll have a direct say in how Klarna responds to them.
What you’ll do
You’ll oversee consumer protection and conduct processes, including complaints handling, creditworthiness and affordability assessments, responsible lending, and the treatment of vulnerable customers and customers in financial difficulty.
You’ll design, review, and monitor compliance metrics, spot trends and anomalies, and flag process weaknesses, breaches, and emerging regulatory risks.
You’ll track new and amended EU and national requirements, such as CCD2, and turn them into internal standards and controls.
You’ll be the main point of contact between Compliance and operational teams on consumer protection and conduct, giving practical guidance they can act on.
You’ll advise on new products, features, and marketing from a consumer protection angle, including through the new product approval process.
You’ll support interactions with regulators, examiners, and auditors, drawing on your knowledge of supervisory expectations and enforcement trends.
You’ll design and deliver compliance training that reflects current regulatory changes.
You’ll keep complete records of compliance activities to support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and investigations.
You’ll write reports for senior management and the board that set out regulatory issues and risks clearly enough to support decisions.
Who you are
You’ve spent 5+ years in compliance, risk management, internal audit, or control functions, ideally in fintech.
You know EU and national consumer credit and consumer protection requirements, including the second Consumer Credit Directive, creditworthiness and affordability assessments, and complaints handling.
You’ve worked on conduct topics such as responsible lending, conflicts of interest, anti-bribery and corruption, and whistleblowing.
You can turn legal and regulatory concepts into operational practice, and explain them clearly in written and spoken English.
You’ve run projects and worked across functions to get them done.
You manage several high-priority tasks and tight deadlines without losing accuracy.
You build working relationships across functions and challenge constructively when something needs it.
Bonus points for
Experience dealing with Finansinspektionen, BaFin, or other EU regulators, especially in regulatory exams or remediation.
Knowledge of Swedish consumer credit rules and market practice.
Experience with payment services regulation (PSD2).
Things you should know before applying
Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.
Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.
Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.
Please include a CV in English. Concrete beats comprehensive — what you built, what it did, what it cost. Curious to learn more about Klarna and what it’s like to work here? Explore our career site!
