Sr. UI/UX Designer

Kipu is bettering the behavioral health landscape, helping treatment centers achieve the best outcomes and empowering patients and caregivers on every step of the recovery journey. Join us in our work to advance behavioral health care in our communities.

Our innovative solutions support providers in treating addiction, eating disorders and many other behavioral health conditions. Our EMR, CRM and revenue cycle solutions help behavioral health facilities succeed in managing their patients’ entire care journey, but it’s through our people that we truly make a difference.

Job Description

The Senior UI/UX Designer owns the end-to-end design thinking process — from discovery and user research through ideation, prototyping, validation, and iteration — turning complex problems into simple, engaging, and trustworthy customer experiences across all digital devices. This role shapes how our products look, feel, and behave, including the design of AI-powered features that earn user confidence in a behavioral health context. Responsibilities include partnering with Product Management, Engineering, and Customers to translate business objectives and user needs into functional, accessible, and HIPAA-conscious designs. This includes leading research synthesis, creating concepts, visual mockups, and interactive prototypes, and presenting designs from the user perspective to key stakeholders. The Senior UI/UX Designer leverages AI tools to accelerate the design process, applies responsible AI principles when designing intelligent features, works independently given general direction, and ensures consistent adherence to usability and accessibility best practices.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design thinking process — empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test — partnering with Product, Engineering, and Customers to generate concepts and user stories grounded in company vision, product goals, market research, user feedback, and business objectives.
  • Create wireframes, workflows, storyboards, and navigation maps that deliver a seamless user experience against a clear set of customer and business goals.
  • Design layouts and UI components such as iconography, graphical elements and navigation tools.
  • Partner with our teams to understand customer behavior across the conversion funnel and other key use cases to identify opportunities to improve performance.
  • Incorporate Voice of Customer research into the overall design process – this includes usability testing as well as customer feedback.
  • Actively participate in an agile product design & development process to drive continuous value delivery.
  • Support ongoing performance optimization.
  • Continuously communicate between multiple stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of design objectives.
  • Create design deliverables, including all types of user experience assets, to support the development of prototypes and/or production applications.
  • Occasionally write design guidelines & documentation for use by development.
  • Understands the art & science of interface design and can articulate thinking behind design decisions.
  • Drive discovery activities — user interviews, contextual inquiry, journey mapping, and synthesis — to define the right problem before designing the solution.
  • Design AI-powered features (copilots, generative interfaces, intelligent suggestions, agentic workflows) using thoughtful patterns for transparency, controllability, error recovery, and user trust.
  • Apply responsible AI principles to every intelligent feature — accounting for bias, hallucination, accessibility, clinician and patient safety, and HIPAA-aligned handling of PHI.
  • Leverage AI-assisted design and research tools (e.g., Figma AI, Cursor, generative image and copy tools, research synthesis assistants) to accelerate ideation, prototyping, and validation while maintaining quality and brand consistency.
  • Stay current on AI and ML capabilities and partner with Product and Engineering to identify where AI can meaningfully improve outcomes for behavioral health providers, patients, and caregivers.

Your Qualifications

  • 8+ Years of relevant design experience.
  • A portfolio that shows expert skill in Interface Design & Interaction Design.
  • Experience designing for Health Care a Plus.
  • Degree in UX, Digital Design or related field.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effectiveness in working in an entrepreneurial environment to define, manage and prioritize workload.
  • Capable of delivering a high volume of new designs and enhancements across multiple teams
  • The ability to quickly turn around rigorous wireframes and mockups in an iterative environment.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma (components, variables, auto-layout, prototyping, and design system contribution) as the primary design tool.
  • Working knowledge of front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and comfort using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor to collaborate with engineering on prototypes, design tweaks, and implementation.
  • Strong fluency across the full design thinking process with examples in your portfolio of leading work end to end, not just executing handoffs.
  • Senior judgment about when to apply the full design thinking process and when to compress or skip phases — scaling discovery, validation, and iteration to match the size, risk, and ambiguity of the problem, and recognizing when a small fix, a well-understood pattern, or a clear constraint doesn’t require a full cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience designing AI-powered or data-driven product features, with a clear point of view on AI UX patterns, transparency, and human-in-the-loop design.
  • Hands-on proficiency with AI-assisted design and research tools (e.g., Figma AI, generative image and copy tools, AI research synthesis), and the judgment to know when to use them and when not to.
  • Working understanding of responsible AI, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and the privacy and safety considerations involved in designing for healthcare and PHI.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Highly competitive salary based on your local market’s compensation data.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • 11 Paid Holidays.
  • Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance.
  • Parental Leave.
  • Pet Insurance.
  • Employee Career Path Program.
  • 401(K) with Company Match.
