Summary:

We are currently seeking a Data Engineering Manager to join our Data Engineering portfolio. This role is available to candidates across EST/AST time zones, excluding Quebec. If you are local to our Toronto hub, you will be expected to be in office minimum twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

The team builds internal infrastructure which enables access to analytical data about Clio's business, as well as external infrastructure to help our customers derive insights and make business decisions about the operations of their firm. Externally and internally, this team helps power business decisions from the tactical to the strategic.

At Clio, we strive to be both human and high performing. For engineering managers, this means supporting and growing your people, as well as delivering solid technical solutions that advance Clio towards our strategic goals. Our engineering managers are highly technical and are expected to be hands-on in the code alongside their team. They create a safe and productive environment for all Clions.

A day in the life might look like:

  • Collaborating with Product, Design, and other business stakeholders to understand the challenges our business faces, identify the most impactful opportunities, and craft a roadmap for the team

  • Working with your team on designing technical solutions

  • Actively contributing to the project by writing and shipping production-level code

  • Giving clear feedback on code reviews, architectural documents, and more to support team members with making sound technical decisions for their projects

  • Regular 1:1 meetings with your direct reports to make sure they are supported in their career growth and development goals

  • Actively participating in hiring to grow the engineering teams at Clio

You may be a fit for this role if you have:

  • Demonstrated success in people leadership in software engineering, particularly with large scale SaaS products

  • A history in hands-on software development and data engineering

  • A diverse knowledge base that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems

  • Strong opinions that are loosely held, and you foster that same attitude in others

  • A habit of providing consistent, honest, and actionable feedback to your team and encouraging your team to reciprocate

  • Experience creating roadmaps that guide your team, but you aren't bound to them - you easily adapt to a constantly changing world

  • An interest in improving your craft by using AI

Serious bonus points if you have:

  • A philosophy on what makes for great software engineering teams

  • Experience with Databricks and/or AWS

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code such as Terraform
