Clio
Clio is more than just a tech company–we are a global leader that is transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.
Summary:
We are seeking a Manager, Systems Engineering to lead our Platform Team, focusing on the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of Clio’s AWS infrastructure. This is a remote role based in the United Kingdom, with occasional in-person collaboration in London.
What your team does:
The Systems Engineering Team is responsible for building and operating the cloud infrastructure and internal developer tools that power Clio products globally.
We ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and scalable, enabling engineering teams to ship software quickly and confidently. You’ll lead a distributed team of engineers, driving technical excellence while fostering a culture of resilience, automation, and continuous improvement.
Who you are:
You’re an engineering leader with deep AWS experience, a passion for operational excellence, and a strong focus on reliability. You embrace SRE principles: reducing toil, automating manual tasks, managing service-level objectives (SLOs), and improving system observability.
You are equally comfortable mentoring engineers as you are engaging in technical discussions with architects and developers. You thrive in a collaborative, distributed environment and are skilled at balancing strategic vision with day-to-day operational needs.
What you’ll work on:
Lead and mentor a team of 3 systems engineers (2 in Spain, 1 in London) responsible for Clio’s AWS infrastructure and platform services.
Define and maintain service-level objectives (SLOs) and error budgets for production systems.
Ensure systems are highly reliable, scalable, and secure, following cloud and SRE best practices.
Partner with Development, Security, and Product Engineering teams to align infrastructure initiatives with Clio’s strategic roadmap.
Oversee incident response processes, post-mortems, and continual improvements to reduce recurrence and mitigate risk.
Drive automation and tooling to reduce manual toil across AWS environments and CI/CD pipelines.
Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability standards for production and pre-production environments.
Support CI/CD and developer productivity initiatives to improve the local development and deployment experience.
Promote a culture of blameless post-mortems, knowledge sharing, and proactive risk management.
What you may have:
Proven experience leading platform, SRE, or systems engineering teams.
Deep knowledge of AWS architecture, services, and IaC (Terraform preferred).
Experience defining and tracking SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.
Knowledge of incident management and post-mortem culture in SRE environments.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (Buildkite, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
Strong understanding of Kubernetes, containerization, and distributed system operations.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK).
Solid software development skills (Python, Go, Ruby, or Bash).
Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Serious bonus points if you have:
Experience managing multi-region AWS environments at scale.
Familiarity with service ownership models and on-call rotation practices.
Experience with cost optimization and FinOps principles in cloud environments.
Previous hands-on experience implementing runbooks, automation frameworks, and self-healing systems.
