Purpose of Role

As a Senior Frontend Developer, you will have a specialization in Web technology. You will be expected to support feature development and mentor junior developers using constructive feedback. You will be responsible for defining and implementing a centralized component library that will be used by all Allica’s web applications. Helping to drive quality documentation and component examples and improve contribution guides and delivery processes. Your enthusiasm for UX and Accessibility will be at the forefront of your conversations with colleagues, and you will encourage discussions from less experienced teammates.

Your remit will go beyond projects as the wider engineering community will look to you for coaching and advice. You will be a strong influence on others and your success will largely be based on that.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Work closely with design and engineering peers to create and refine design system processes and governance.
  • Ensure components and patterns are well-documented with clear guidelines and usage examples.
  • Ensure that components adhere to accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG) to provide an inclusive user experience.
  • Work with designers to refine components based on user feedback and usability testing.
  • Participate in design reviews to provide technical insights and feasibility assessments.
  • Manage updates and changes to the design system, ensuring backward compatibility and proper versioning.
  • Plan and execute the release of new versions of the design system.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in your specialism and in your Community of Practice, leading by example.
  • Help run your community of practice, encouraging broad participation.

Required Skills

  • Expert in JavaScript, Typescript, React + Hooks, Redux, Node.js, HTML5 and SASS/CSS.
  • Experience in working with and extending component libraries: MUI, Chakra, or similar
  • Demonstratable knowledge of Chakra and its inner workings.
  • Experienced with using Storybook for component documentation
  • Knowledge of UX/UI design and accessibility.
  • Detailed-orientated
  • Working knowledge of Figma
  • Experienced with Webpack, Babel, Jest, Cypress and React Testing Library.
  • Experienced with CI/CD and modern DevOps tools. Exposure to Azure DevOps Pipelines will be beneficial.
