What you’ll do & Who you are
We are seeking a passionate Senior Data Scientist (d/f/m) to join our central Data Science team based in Berlin! Our team’s mission is to deliver data-driven insights and machine learning (ML) solutions that enhance user experiences and drive value across our platforms, with a particular focus on search and ranking tools. We offer a flexible working environment with in-person presence expected once/twice a week, or as required for key product appointments.
About the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:
Lead impactful projects that apply data science and advanced ML models to complex business problems, especially around search, ranking, recommendation, and personalization.
Own end-to-end data science initiatives: from ideation and prototyping, to production deployment, performance monitoring, and refining for scalability and efficiency.
Analyze large and complex datasets to uncover actionable insights that inform business strategies and drive user-centric solutions.
Build and validate proof-of-concepts for innovative features, clearly presenting results and value to diverse stakeholders.
Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, communicating insights, methodologies, and outcomes effectively.
Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, engineers, and other data scientists to align on search and platform goals and drive cross-functional product development.
Mentor and support junior data scientists, promoting best practices and continuous team growth.
Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, integrating new tools, frameworks, or techniques to push the team’s capabilities forward.
What You Bring
Relevant MSc or Ph.D. in statistics, computer science, economics, or a related field.
3+ years of hands-on experience in designing, training, and deploying machine learning models, ideally within marketplaces or technology-driven environments.
Advanced programming skills in Python (preferred), R, and proficiency working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
Strong background in machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) and experience with MLOps best practices.
Proven track record with cloud platforms, especially GCP or AWS, including deploying and managing ML solutions in production environments.
Experience guiding cross-functional team efforts and managing a variety of stakeholders.
Confidence in translating complex business needs into data-driven strategies and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Enthusiasm for agile software development (Kanban/Scrum), product discovery, and iterative, continuous deployment.
Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal.
