We’re Adevinta, a global leader in digital marketplaces. Our household name brands, including Marktplaats in the Netherlands, mobile.de in Germany and leboncoin in France, reach hundreds of millions of people every month.

We’re all about matchmaking, and our sites help people find whatever they’re looking for in their local communities – whether it’s a car, an apartment, a sofa or a new job. Every connection made or item found makes a difference by creating a world where people share more and waste less.

Our brands are supported by global Tech Hubs in Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin. Their goal is to develop common global products and innovation platforms which all of our brands can use. This means using cutting edge technology to create highly scalable, customisable and secure products and components that free up development time and leverage our access to global data.

What you’ll do & Who you are

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager with a solid technical background and a passion for leading people in a Product Engineering environment.

In this hybrid role, you will lead a cross-functional product team focused on user engagement, a central area of our platform that connects people, drives interactions and adds value to millions of users.

You will spend most of your time enabling the team to succeed: guiding engineers, improving ways of working, removing blockers, and shaping the technical direction of the product together with Product and Design. You’ll also stay hands-on, contributing to the codebase in your area of expertise (web or backend).

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and support a team of software engineers through coaching, mentoring and continuous feedback

  • Drive the execution and delivery of product initiatives in partnership with Product and Design

  • Shape the technical vision of the team and help guide architecture and design decisions

  • Contribute to the codebase in your area of strength (frontend or backend), leading by example

  • Support your team’s professional growth and career development

  • Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, best practices and continuous improvement

  • Collaborate across teams to ensure alignment and effective communication

  • Foster a culture of ownership, trust, and psychological safety

  • Participate in our on-call rotation (as needed)

Who You Are

  • You have 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams in an agile, product-focused environment

  • You have hands-on experience as a software engineer, with deep expertise in either web frontend (React, TypeScript) or backend (Golang) technologies

  • You care deeply about people development, and are motivated by helping others grow and succeed

  • You are comfortable working closely with Product Managers and Designers to shape user-centric solutions

  • You understand the importance of data, experimentation and fast iteration

  • You’re a strong communicator and know how to create alignment and clarity across teams

  • You are fluent in English and enjoy working in diverse, collaborative environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience in DevOps practices and cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, microservices, or domain-driven design

  • Exposure to B2C platforms or high-traffic applications

  • Experience in building engagement or recommendation systems

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package

  • Opportunity to shape the way we work. Your feedback and opinions are valued at all levels of the organisation

  • Benefits including annual bonus plans

  • Flexibility to work when and how you want - flexible hours, autonomy to set your own agenda, choice of phone and computer

  • Smart Working Policy - work remotely some of the time, balanced with time in the office together with your team - between 5 and 45 days per quarter in the office depending on each team.

  • ‘Work from anywhere’ weeks - up to four weeks working from anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection!

  • Career development, including language classes and Adevinta Academies: specialised content built by our experts on Machine Learning, Agile, Leadership and more

For each working day, you will be eligible for a €8 meal voucher. You will receive 250 euros on the welfare platform after the birth of your child
